Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *apir, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁epi (on, upon). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἐπί (epí, on top of). Alternatively, Orel constructs Proto-Albanian *eupera, a secondary analogical ablaut variant of Proto-Indo-European *upér.[1]
