Etymology[edit]
From Old Norse harskr, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *kars- (“to scratch, scrape, rub, card”). See also Middle Low German harsch (“hairy”), Russian короста (korosta, “to itch”), Old Church Slavonic краста (krasta).
