From Ancient Greek αἱμο- (haimo-, blood) +‎ διάλυσις (diálusis, separation, dissolution), from διαλύω (dialúō, I separate), from διά (diá, through) +‎ λύω (lúō, I loose). By surface analysis, hemo- +‎ dialysis.
