Inherited from Old Czech hovno, from Proto-Slavic *govьno (“shit”). Cognates include Belarusian гаўно́ (haŭnó), Polish gówno, Serbo-Croatian govno, Russian говно (govno), and Ukrainian гівно́ (hivnó).
