Compound of juru (worker; skilled man; professional) +‎ rawat, from Malay jururawat, from Javanese ꦗꦸꦫꦸꦫꦮꦠ꧀ (jururawat, nurse). Compare to Japanese 看護師(かんごし) (kangoshi, literally nurse + expert).
