Compound of juru (“worker; skilled man; professional”) +‎ rawat, from Malay jururawat, from Javanese ꦗꦸꦫꦸꦫꦮꦠ꧀ (jururawat, “nurse”). Compare to Japanese 看護師(かんごし) (kangoshi, literally “nurse + expert”).
