Old Norse[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Same as English maple. Perhaps from a blend of the earlier Proto-Germanic *apulaz (“apple”) (whence Old Norse mǫsurr), and *masuraz (“knob, veiny wood (such as maple)”). From the latter one comes Old Norse mǫsurr.
