Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Vulgar Latin *pennellus, masculinized diminutive of penna (feather, wing). The failure of Latin /nn/ to yield the expected */ɲ/ in Catalan may be due to palatal dissimilation from the following /ʎ/ < /ll/.

Pronunciation

[edit]

Noun

[edit]

penell m (plural penells)

  1. weather vane
