From Malay persekutuan, equivalent to sekutu + per- -an.
- The sense “partnership” is a semantic loan from Dutch vennootschap (“partnership, company”).
- The sense “fellowship” is a semantic loan from Ancient Greek κοινωνία (koinōnía, “community, communion”).
