profession of faith (plural professions of faith)

  1. (religion) A creed; a (typically formulaic) statement of the beliefs of one's religion, often recited during public prayers or liturgies.
  2. (religion, Christianity, specifically) A formulaic declaration asserting the orthodoxy of one's beliefs, usually made at baptism, entry into a particular Church, or upon the acceptance of an ecclesial office, and typically including the recitation of a creed.
