From Proto-Albanian *klaina, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱloi-n-os (“slanting, askew”) (compare Irish claon, Gothic 𐌷𐌻𐌰𐌹𐌽𐌴 (hlainē)), from *ḱlei- (“to slant, lean”) (compare English lean, Lithuanian šliẽti, Serbo-Croatian slȏj (“layer”)).[1]
