Etymology

[edit]

From reial (royal), although the -me ending is unexplained. Perhaps influenced by a derivative of Latin regimen; cf. the form reaume. A Vulgar Latin *regalimen has been postulated. More likely an alteration of the form reiame, reaume with influence from reial.
