Borrowed from Old French reubarbe, from Late Latin reubarbarum, probably from Koine Greek ῥῆον βάρβαρον (rhêon bárbaron), from Ancient Greek ῥῆον (rhêon, rhubarb) + βάρβαρον (bárbaron), neuter of βάρβαρος (bárbaros, foreign; barbaric).
