From Ancient Greek σαββατισμός (sabbatismós, Sabbath observance", "Sabbath-keeping), from σαββατίζω (sabbatízō, I Sabbatize, I keep the Sabbath, I observe the Sabbath), from σάββατον (sábbaton, Sabbath), from Biblical Hebrew שַׁבָּת (šabbāṯ, Sabbath).
