skymta (present skymtar, preterite skymtade, supine skymtat, imperative skymta)

  1. to glimpse (see briefly or incompletely)
    En björn hade skymtats vid huset
    A bear had been seen near the house
    De skymtade en byggnad genom grenarna
    They glimpsed a building through the branches
  2. (sometimes with a particle, especially fram (forth) (when appearing into view)) to be barely (and indistinctly) visible
    Tornen skymtade i fjärran
    The towers could faintly be seen in the distance
    Kyrkan skymtade fram bakom träden
    They caught glimpses of the church through the trees
