Etymology[edit]

soft +‎ bill

Noun[edit]

softbill (plural softbills)

  1. Any of various birds (of no particular taxonomic commonality) that feed on relatively "soft" foods, such as leaves and insects.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Not a scientific term, and rather variable in its usage. In particular, the bills (beaks) of these birds are not necessarily soft.
