Old Javanese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unknown, probably affixed ta- +‎ *ruh, which came from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ruh (to fall, be shed), hence related to truh (drizzle, fine rain, rainy mist) and ruruh (calm, quiet, composed, modest). Cognate of Indonesian teduh.
