Etymology[edit]
Unknown, probably affixed ta- + *ruh, which came from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ruh (“to fall, be shed”), hence related to truh (“drizzle, fine rain, rainy mist”) and ruruh (“calm, quiet, composed, modest”). Cognate of Indonesian teduh.
