Etymology

From tosh (stone) +‎ baqa (frog). Compare with Kazakh тасбақа (tasbaqa), Bashkir ташбаҡа (taşbaqa), Tatar ташбака (taşbaqa), Southern Altai таш-бака (taš-baka), Kyrgyz ташбака (taşbaka), Uyghur تاشپاقا (tashpaqa, turtle, tortoise).
