[edit]

From Middle Low German tucht, Proto-Germanic *tuhtiz (pulling), cognate with German Zucht (discipline) and Dutch tocht (expedition) (whence Danish togt). Late Old Norse tykt and Swedish tukt are also borrowed from Low German. The Germanic noun is derived from the verb *teuhaną (to lead, pull), cf. German ziehen.
