From væta (“to make wet”) + kverkarnar (“the throat”).
Verb[edit]
- (intransitive, idiomatic, colloquial) to wet one's whistle, to drink something, to quench one's thirst
Usage notes[edit]
Can be used to refer to ingesting any type of liquid (water, soda, etc.), but is also often used specifically to refer to having alcohol.
