From Proto-Polynesian *faŋa₃ from Proto-Oceanic *paŋa (“to gape open”); compare with Hawaiian hono (“harbor”), Tahitian faʻa (“valley”), Tongan fanga, and Samoan faga (“bay”)[1][2][3]
