Etymology[edit]
öv (“belt”) + -re (“onto”, case suffix)
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
övre
Swedish[edit]
Alternative forms[edit]
- öfre (obsolete since 1906)
Etymology[edit]

övre
Usage notes[edit]
- In geographic names like Övre Volta (“Upper Volta, now Burkina Faso”), upper means higher, upstream. But there is no such meaning in övre Norrland.
- The word looks like a comparative form of över-övre-överst, but över is a preposition and not an adjective.
