From Ancient Greek Προμηθεύς (Promētheús), from the accusative τὸν (tòn) Προμηθέα (Promēthéa). From προμηθής (promēthḗs, “forethinking”) + -εύς (-eús), from πρό (pró) + stem from μανθάνω (manthánō, “to learn, to know”).
