From a Semitic source cognate to Hebrew בּוּץ (būṣ, byssus) and Aramaic בּוּצָא (būṣā, byssus), from Proto-Semitic *būṣ- (fibrous grass, rush etc.). Compare also Old Armenian բեհեզ (behez, byssus).
