Kalmyk[edit]
Cyrillic | Clear Script |
---|---|
арслң (arslñ) | ᠠᠷᠰᠠᠯᠠᡊ(arsalang) |
Pronunciation[edit]
Etymology 1[edit]
Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *arsïlan (“lion”).
Noun[edit]
арслң • (arslñ)
Derived terms[edit]
- арслң зан (arslñ zan)
Etymology 2[edit]
Uncertain. If the same as Etymology 1, then the original coin or currency (that supposedly depicted a lion) is unknown. A folk etymology suggests it is a compound of орс (ors, “Russian”) + Chinese 兩/两 (liǎng), but the shift /o/ > /a/ is not expected.
Noun[edit]
арслң • (arslñ)
- ruble (currency)
