Inherited from Old East Slavic бобъ (bobŭ), from Proto-Slavic *bòbъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *bab-а/āˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰabʰ-o/eh₂, from *bʰabʰ- (bean). Cognate with Russian боб (bob).
