Etymology[edit]

An old ī-stem agent noun borrowed from Russian вити́я (vitíja), ultimately from Old Church Slavonic вѣтии (větii), from Proto-Slavic *věti. Reanalyzed in Russian and whence Bulgarian with the suffix -ия (-ija).
