Ultimately from Hittite [Term?]. Compare English chalcedony, Old Armenian կարկեհան (karkehan), Latin chalcēdōnius, Ancient Greek χαλκηδών (khalkēdṓn), Arabic كركند and French calcédoine. Doublet of халцедон (xalcedon).
