Borrowed from Ukrainian люби́сток (ljubýstok), from Polish lubszczek (modern lubczyk), from Middle High German lübestecke (> German Liebstöckel), from Latin levisticum, earlier ligusticum, from Ancient Greek λιγυστικόν (ligustikón), originally “Ligurian plant used for medicinal purposes”.
