Inherited from Old East Slavic месия (mesija), from Old Church Slavonic месиꙗ (mesija), from Ancient Greek Μεσσίας (Messías), from Aramaic ܡܫܺܝܚܳܐ (məšīḥā), from Biblical Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (māšîaḥ, anointed).[1]
