By surface analysis, сай- (saj-, good, adjective) +‎ -хан (-xan, affectionate/intensive suffix).

Inherited from Classical Mongolian ᠰᠠᠶᠢᠬᠠᠨ (sayiqan), from Middle Mongol [Term?], from Proto-Mongolic *saxïkan. Cognate with Buryat һайхан (hajxan), Dongxiang saigvan, etc.
