Compare Proto-Slavic *śěpati (to jerk) (formally impossible, expected would be **шепам).

Verb[edit]

се́пам (sépam) first-singular present indicativeimpf (perfective се́пна) (dialectal)

  1. (transitive) to pull, to tug suddenly
  2. (transitive) to trip up, to impede
  3. (transitive, figurative) to startle, to shock
  4. (by extension) to give someone a scare/start
  5. (reflexive with се) to be startled, to suddenly come to one's senses

Usage notes[edit]

The passive сепвам се (sepvam se) is the only form that is commonly used within the literary language. The remaining forms are dialectal.
