Etymology

From archaic смеси́ть (smesítʹ, to mix) +‎ -е́ние (-énije); see [1]. The same verb produces other derivatives that are still in use, such as смеси́тель (smesítelʹ, mixer). See also смеша́ть (smešátʹ), the normal-register synonym of смеси́ть (smesítʹ).
