Perhaps from тре́скать (tréskatʹ) +‎ -ся (-sja), from Proto-Slavic *trěskati, or from треск (tresk) +‎ -ать (-atʹ) +‎ -ся (-sja). The same root appears in тре́снуть (trésnutʹ) and треща́ть (treščátʹ).
