Russian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic тъщеславьѥ (tŭšteslavĭje, “vainglory”), itself a calque of Ancient Greek κενοδοξία (kenodoxía, “vainglory”). By surface analysis, тще- (tšče-) + слава (slava) + -ие (-ije).
