From *jinǯü ~ *jenčü (pearl), from Sinitic 珍珠 (MC trin tsyu, “pearl”).

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (jenčü, pearl); Tatar энҗе (ence), Karachay-Balkar инджи (inci), Kazakh інжу (ınju), Kyrgyz инжу (inju), Southern Altai јинји (ǰinǰi), Khakas нинӌі (nincì), Uzbek inju, Uyghur ئۇنجە (unje)/ئۇنجى (unji)/ئىنجۇ (inju), Turkish inci, Chuvash ӗнчӗ (ĕnč̬ĕ, pearl).
