Etymology[edit]

From *yoqal- (to get lost, to disappear), from Proto-Turkic *yōk (no; there is no).

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (joqal-, to disappear);[1] Kazakh жоғалу (joğalu, to get lost), Kyrgyz жоголуу (jogoluu, to get lost), Uzbek yoʻqolmoq (get lost), Uyghur يوقالماق (yoqalmaq, to get lost, disappear), Turkmen ýogalmak (to disappear, die), Turkish yoğalmak (to disappear), etc.

Verb[edit]

юғалыу (yuğalıw)

  1. to be/get lost; be misplaced
    Тамғалы мал юғалмай.
    Tamğalı mal yuğalmay.
    Branded cattle won't get lost.
    Картағыҙ юғалһа, банкка шылтыратығыҙ һәм уны блокка ҡуйыуҙарын һорағыҙ.
    Kartağıź yuğalha, bankka şıltıratığıź həm unı blokka quyıwźarın horağıź.
    If your (bank) card gets lost, call the bank and ask to block it.

Usage notes[edit]

In the first sense, this verb is used for objects and animals. For people (or other animate beings), аҙашыу (aźaşıw, lose one's way) is used.
