Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yalga- (to lick).[1][2]

Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰖𐰞𐰍𐰀 (yalɣa-), Turkish yalamak, Uzbek yalamoq, Bashkir ялау (yalaw) and Yakut салаа (salaa).
