Hebrew[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From תת־ (tát) + תַּרְבּוּת (tarbút). A calque of English subculture, of German Subkultur or similar.
Noun[edit]
תַּת־תַּרְבּוּת • (tát-tarbút) f
- a subculture
- Synonym: תַּרְבּוּת מִשְׁנֶה (tarbút mishné)
Usage notes[edit]
- Whereas English terms starting with the prefix sub- are relatively common, Hebrew terms for the same concepts that use the roughly equivalent תַּת־ (tat-) prefix are less so. In this case the synonymous תַּרְבּוּת מִשְׁנֶה (tarbút mishné) is about five times more common.[1]
