  1. (interrogative) when?
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 75:6:
      أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ
      ʔayyāna yawmu l-qiyāmati
      When is the Day of Resurrection?
  2. (conditional) whenever
    أَيَّانَ تَشْعُرْ بِالأَلَمِ، تَذْهَبْ إِلَى الطَّبِيبِ.
    ʔayyāna tašʕur bi-l-ʔalami, taḏhab ʔilā ṭ-ṭabībi.
    Whenever you feel pain, you should visit the doctor.
