From Aramaic כַּמֹּונָֹא / ܩܰܡܽܘܢܳܐ (kammōnā, cumin), from Akkadian 𒌑𒁷𒊺𒉪 (Ú.GAMUN /⁠kamūnu⁠/, cumin). Note also Old Armenian չաման (čʻaman).
