Assyrian Neo-Aramaic[edit]

Corruption of ܝܲܘܡܵܐ (yawmā, “day”) + ܐ݇ܚܪܹܢܵܐ (ḥrēnā, “another”), “another day”, possibly also ܐܘܿ (ō, “that, the”) at the start.
Pronunciation[edit]
- (Nineveh Plains) IPA(key): [ʔoːmaxɪnna]
Adverb[edit]
ܐܘܿܡܵܚܪܹܢܵܐ • (ōmāḥrēnā)
- ereyesterday, day before yesterday
- overmorrow, day after tomorrow
Usage notes[edit]
As this word may refer to either a day in the past or the future, some dialects may distinguish between the two with the phrases ܠܵܐ ܬܸܡܵܠܝ ܐܘܿܡܵܚܪܹܢܵܐ ― lā timmāl ōmāḥrēnā ― Not yesterday, the day before yesterday and ܠܵܐ ܨܲܦܪܵܐ ܐܘܿܡܵܚܪܹܢܵܐ ― lā ṣaprā ōmāḥrēnā ― Not tomorrow, the day after tomorrow.
