Etymology

Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, from Aramaic תְּלָתַעֵסְרֶא (təlāṯaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܬܠܵܬ݂ (tlāṯ, three) +‎ ܥܸܣܲܪ (ˁissar, ten); compare Arabic ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ (ṯalāṯa ʕašrata) and Hebrew שְׁלוֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה (sh'lósh 'esré).
