Borrowed from Portuguese leilão, from Arabic الإِعْلَام (al-ʔiʕlām). Compare Gujarati લિલામ (lilām), Marathi लिलाव (lilāv), Bengali নিলাম (nilam), Kannada ಲಿಲಾವು (lilāvu).
