From Proto-Indo-Aryan *śarHabʰás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćarHabʰás, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *ḱerh₂-. Possibly related to Proto-Munda *sv₆l₁₂ˀp (gazelle).
