Corrupted from Classical Persian صَابُون (sābūn), from Arabic صَابُون (ṣābūn), from Aramaic צַפּוֹן / ܨܦܘܢ (ṣappōn), from Ancient Greek σάπων (sápōn), from Latin sāpōnem, from Proto-Germanic *saipǭ. Possibly influenced by Portuguese sabão, from the same source.
