Borrowed from Classical Persian حوالدار (hawāl-dār). By surface analysis, हवाला (havālā, charge, custody) +‎ -दार (-dār). Compare Malayalam ഹവിൽദാർ (havildāṟ), Punjabi ਹਵਾਲਦਾਰ (havāldār).
