Inherited from Old Bengali আহ্মি (ahmi), derived from Magadhi Prakrit আহ্মে (ahme); ultimately from Sanskrit অস্মে (asme) (locative of বযম্ (bayam, we)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *asmáy, from Proto-Indo-European *n̥smé.
