Inherited from Sanskrit धानेय (dhāneya, coriander), perhaps originally an adjective from धाना (dhānā, grain), due to a comparison of coriander seeds with grass (probably wheat) grains, from Proto-Indo-Aryan *dʰaHnáH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰaHnáH, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰoHnéh₂.[1]
