Inherited from Prakrit 𑀫𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀺 (muṭṭhi), from Sanskrit मुष्टि (muṣṭí), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *muṣṭíṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *muštíš (fist), from Proto-Indo-European *méws-ti-s ~ *mus-téy-s (fist). Cognate with Hindi मूठ (mūṭh) and Persian مشت (mošt).
