Etymology

From Pali pabbajita (one who has gone out from home; one who has given up worldly life and undertaken the life of a bhikkhu, recluse or ascetic) or Sanskrit प्रव्रजित (pravrajita, gone abroad or into exile; turned a recluse; religious mendicant or ascetic). Cognate with Khmer បព្វជិត (bɑɑpvɔɔcɨt), Lao ບັບພະຊິດ (bap pha sit).
